A Word of the Day is 2-3 verses from the bible with a quick paragraph about how that verse is relevant to your life.  How it challenges, convicts, calls up, or comforts you. It is the personal application of the word to our lives.  It is from the men of eNgage, for the men of engage. A reminder to be in the word, and a little light in our often dark inboxes.

If you’re not a lunatic or a heretic, and would like to write a Word of the Day, we would love to have you eNgage.

    Isaiah 55, verses 8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
    declares the LORD.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Everybody is familiar with God’s command not to judge others. But this passage–specifically verse 8–reminds us that we cannot begin to comprehend the way that God works. This passage is a humbling reminder to me that I should never look down on others or their choices and should instead treat everybody with love and dignity and assistance if they are in need.

While absolute truth and objective morality have their place, I would personally do well to know my nature is to error on the side of judgement, and overcompensate with grace.

As a homeless man named guitar jimmy once said, “I don’t know a single person who was yelled into the kingdom of God, but I do know a lot of people that have been loved in.”

This coming from a man who fought off “christians” like the plague, until a group of college kids loved him unconditionally; even letting him live in their cars, and their parent’s backyards.

Now he runs a ministry to the homeless, spreading the love of God through orange juice, socks, and songs.
